New York-based photographer Shoko Takayasu first picked up a camera when she was 16 years old — she grabbed her dad’s SLR to shoot a punk band performing in her home-city, Tokyo. After studying at Rochester Institute of Technology, the Japan born artist broke out of her early musical beginnings finding that everything from fashion to literature could be a catalyst for her creativity (“Inspiration comes through all my six senses.”) Having a legendary photographer, Roxanne Lowit, as her mentor, she quickly fell into shooting fashion shows and portraiture as well as doing editorial work for a variety of clients including Italian Vogue, Purple Magazine, Nylon Guys, Bullett, Black Book, and Modern Painters.
