Wine is not a product but the experience of a relationship. For this reason it’s unique and unrepeatable. It comes through the personality of every single vine that is in relation with a precise terroir, different from the one 100 mt far; with an unpredictable vintage, that in the rapid succession of days, hot and cold, rainy or arid, will be never repeated; with a real man, who, harvest after harvest, in the long process of acknowledgement that only the land can provide, acts, decides whether taking actions or not, leaving in the bottle the sign of his “hand”. We’ll never be able to “measure” the quality of a wine according to the numerical parameters (polyphenols, acidity…): it would be like talking about the charm of a woman simply listing her measures!!!

 “My passion for the land brought me from Varese to Castagneto after completing my university studies. I became fascinated by a product like wine which involves technical as well as cultural aspects. Instinct  told me that I should aspire to the highest level of achievement in this field and that moment I met Attilio Pagli, who’s still a dear collaborator and friend, I knew that I was destined to become a wine grower.”

After what was a very difficult beginning, with various problems stemming from leasing property and so on, I bought the best terrain available and I started building a cellar.: that was in 1988. The 1990 harvest, which began to reveal the great potential of the Sangiovese grape, markedthe initiation of using wooden barrels, for the estate: in the beginning with a capacity of 220 litres, since 1992 with barrels of 10 and 35 ql.
I planted my first experimental vineyard in 1991 (15 hectares) with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, two grape varieties that show great expression and character in the area of Bolgheri, and Sangiovese that is my favourite variety. At the same time I also decided to experiment with the potential forSyrah. In 1997 I purchased “Castagni” and “Poderini” two vineyards which bordered my property, thus consolidating the estate. I also enlarged the cellar by building underneath the hill in contact with the rock, a substrate of our lands, I acquired a space that is finally adequate to raise wine in barriques.
In the last ten years the estate reached its definitive size, 30 hectares, and I am about to plant the last 5 hectares of them.

Along my way I chosse to collaborate with a group of  people, who I felt a certain closeness to and personally linked by a mutual sense of responsibility.   We aspire to accomplish every day our goals adhering  to traditional manual methods.I am very grateful for the collaboration of two young men professionally well-prepared: Fabio Motta in sales and marketing and Stefano Galbiati working in  production.

Along with Cinzia at the cellar, Roberta at the exports and Monica in the office, each of them represents  more than a simple collaborator, rather paarticipates with personal responsibility in a work that somehow belongs to them.

L’azienda Michele Satta è da tempo considerata tra i grandi di Bolgheri, sicuramente tra le aziende più originali.

In questa mitica terra della Toscana, Satta interpreta con un approccio molto personale il suo territorio, senza mai assimilarsi ad uno stile usuale o scontato.

Oltre ai classici Bolgheri (Bolgheri rosso e la selezione Piastraia) in cui per primo affianca al tradizionale Cabernet-Merlot il carattere del Sangiovese e la sensualità del Syrah, propone l’insolita scelta di un toscanissimo Sangiovese 100%, l’unico di tutta Bolgheri, che compete con i grandi di Chianti e Montalcino.

All’ apice della gamma sta il Bolgheri superiore I Castagni, interpretazione personale del classico stile Bolgheri.

Questa azienda da sempre produce con estrema cura anche vini bianchi, come testimoniano il Giovin re, un sorprendente Viognier in purezza, ed il Costa di Giulia, un grande bianco dai tratti mediterranei, composto da Vermentino e Sauvignon.

Tradizionale, controcorrente, innovatore, Michele Satta si identifica con la figura del Vigneròn, con la sua totale dedizione al lavoro in vigna ed in cantina, riesce a  comunicare, senza cosmetica, la straordinaria unicità del suo territorio.

Conduce personalmente 25 ettari di vigneto e vinifica con tecniche tradizionali nella bella cantina in zona vigna al Cavaliere.

  1. I’m not sure why but this site is loading incredibly slow for me.
    Is anyone else having this problem or is it a issue on my end?
    I’ll check back later on and see if the problem still exists.
